SYNOPSIS/PLOT A chronicle on the life and presidency of George W. Bush (Josh Brolin). Whether you love him or hate him, there is no question that the actual President is one of the most controversial public figures in recent memory. In an unprecedented undertaking, acclaimed director Oliver Stone is bringing the life of the 43rd President to the big screen as only he can. W. takes viewers through Bush's eventful life—his struggles and triumphs, how he found both his wife and his faith, and of course the critical days leading up to his decision to invade Iraq.
PRO REVIEWS ----------------------------------------
"W. is fascinating. No other word for it. I became absorbed in its story (...) How can he [Bush] blame himself? He was only following God's will. (...) Rating: **** (out of four)." (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times)
----------------------------------------
"Unusual and inescapably interesting (...) a relatively even-handed, restrained treatment of recent politics. (...) For a film that could have been either a scorching satire or an outright tragedy, 'W.' is, if anything, overly conventional, especially stylistically." (Todd McCarthy: Variety)
----------------------------------------
"Disappointing. Stone whipped this out in time for the US Presidential election, but it’s hard to see how it’ll make any significant impact on voters. Or why it even should. (...) Rating: ** (out of five)." (Helen O'Hara: Empire)
----------------------------------------
"It's not that 'W.' fails to score points. It's watchable, often fun and, on rare occasion, suitably fierce. But from Stone you expect a fire in the belly or the gravitas he showed in Nixon. (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)." (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone)
----------------------------------------
"Queasily enjoyable (...) The pleasure of Mr. Stone’s work has never been located in restraint but in excess, a commitment to extremes that can drown out the world or, as in this film, give it newly vivid, hilarious and horrible form." (Manohla Dargis: The New York Times)
